Good Friday Appeal to support Bendigo Health

14 Feb 2024

For the first time in its 93 year history, a portion of funds raised during its 2024 appeal will be shared between five regional hospitals including Bendigo Health.

From nursing scholarships to capital expenditure, this investment aims to strengthen regional health services and their invaluable work delivering health care to children, young people, and families living in regional and rural Victoria.

We are thrilled to be involved in this collaboration, which will be used to help fund our kids rehab play space along with paediatric staff scholarships and specialist training programs - see further details below.

Bendigo Health joins Grampians Health, Latrobe Regional Health, Goulburn Valley Health and Barwon Health in receiving funds following this year's Good Friday Appeal on Friday, 29 March 2024.

PAEDIATRIC REHABILITATION PLAY SPACE DEVELOPMENT

Our all abilities outdoor playground for our paediatric patients has been a proud collaboration designed by our clinicians in connection with their patients and our community. It will allow patients to use the new dedicated play space during their rehabilitation sessions and to be available whenever they just want to play side by side with their siblings or other peers.

PAEDIATRIC STAFF SCHOLARSHIP AND SPECIALIST TRAINING PROGRAM

Investing in our staff will support our ability to attract and retain high qualified and passionate clinical and allied health professionals to deliver excellence in paediatric patient care.
Funding will be shared across the specialities of Nursing, Allied Health and Medical as follows:

Nursing: Bendigo Health has identified the need to fund a clinical nurse educator to support the growth of paediatric training and development opportunities. We are seeking funding to pilot a nurse educator role for 12 months (which would thereafter be considered in recurrent funding). We aim to make a commitment to a learning and development culture. This role along with scholarships and specialist training will support  existing staff in their professional development needs.

Allied Health: We would like to arrange specialists from The Royal Children’s Hospital to come to Bendigo and provide education to staff on site. The funding would be allocated to education sessions, as well as supernumery days for staff to attend these professional development opportunities.

Medical teams: Our teams have expressed interest in accessing training from their peers at The Royal Children’s Hospital and funds would be allocated to back fill roles, allowing staff to travel to Melbourne and upskill in paediatric intensive care.
