This week would have marked the start of Bendigo Health’s first international fundraising adventure as part of the 2020 Japan Trek. The 8-day adventure along Japan’s ancient Nakasendo Trail was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic and associated travel restrictions. However, this did not stop the committed group from raising vital funds for Bendigo Health’s Mental Health services and facilities.
An incredible $56,988 was raised by 16 participants through raffles, events, donations and even a healthy lunch program for staff.
We are pleased to confirm that these funds have purchased specific exercise equipment to benefit Mental Health patients. Thanks to the contribution of participants and their supporters, the funds raised also acted as a catalyst for the mental health area to employ a dedicated Exercise Physiologist to run specific exercise assessments and programs for Mental Health patients, which is a new service now offered by Bendigo Health.
We are also thankful that many of the Japan Trek participants have also joined our virtual fitness challenge, Move for Mental Health, which is underway as part of Mental Health Awareness Month and will extend our fundraising support for mental health facilities, services and complementary therapies.
