Kirkland Lake Gold has announced it will sponsor the Gobbé Wellness Centre over three years through its Community Partnership Program.

The Gobbé Wellness Centre hosts a wellness program that provides a range of activities, such as yoga and oncology massage, to assist in improving the physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing of cancer patients and carers.
Bendigo Health Chief Executive Officer Peter Faulkner said sponsorship would cover the costs of three staff members, including wellness coordinator and oncology masseuse, allowing the Wellness Centre to open five days-a-week.
“This is a fantastic initiative and will benefit cancer patients and their families throughout the Loddon Mallee region,” he said.
“It will secure the long-term future of the Gobbé Wellness Centre and allow us to develop the existing Cancer Wellness Program.”
Kirkland Lake Gold’s VP Australian Operations, Ion Hann said it was immensely proud to support the Bendigo Health’s Cancer Wellness Program.
“The expansion of the program to patients provides a wonderful support (mentally, physically and spiritually) to people in the region who are undergoing cancer treatments and those who are in remission. Our aim is to have a sustained impact with the partner organisations and the lives of the people they support, creating a positive ongoing outcome for the community,” he said.
Bendigo Health Cancer Centre Clinical Director Dr Rob Blum said the Gobbé Wellness Centre aimed to make patients feel better about their current situation through tailored activities.
“Some of our patients might have significant physical limitations. The instructors are aware of that and modify the activities to suit. There is also a connectedness because the patients know the people in the room understand what they’re experiencing,” Dr Blum said.
“This funding will help the Gobbé Wellness Centre continue to ensure that patients’ wellbeing is at the forefront of their treatment at Bendigo Health.”
The new project will continue to require support for the ongoing sustainability and growth for this important service.
