Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer worldwide
Donate to support local colorectal research and training
Bendigo Health has become a regional referral centre for bowel cancer and other bowel surgery, with an increasing caseload and complexities of cases. We have successfully introduced a multidisciplinary pre-operative service to prepare patients prior to colorectal (bowel) surgery. Our aim is to create better patient outcomes post surgery, reduce their length of stay in hospital and minimise the mental burden of unknown outcomes.
There is an increased proportion of surgeons with sub-speciality interest, including research to improve patient care and outcomes - especially in a regional settings.
As part of Bowel Cancer Awareness month in June, we are asking our community to support our hospital to enhance local colorectal research and support staff training and development within this field. We aim to normalise the discussion and treatment of a taboo organ.
How we use your donation:
- Conducting research, analysing and dissemination of results
- Undertaking statistical support for research projects
- Gain a greater understanding of patient perspectives
- Creating and maintaining database of related colorectal surgeries at Bendigo Health
- Attending conferences, in particular to assist junior staff and presenting oral papers at National/International conferences
Research helps to discover new and better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat colorectal diseases. Training our staff helps to identify important research questions and link them to providing care for our community. Currently surgical research and training funding is limited and not widely available.
