Each year Bendigo Health participates in Dry July, an annual campaign coordinated by the Dry July Foundation. Dry July encourages people to ‘go dry’ and raise money as ambassadors for their chosen cancer charity.
Efforts by Bendigo Health Dry July ambassadors as well as supplementary funds from Dry July Foundation have helped us launch a new Cancer Wellness Program, assisted through the appointment of a Cancer Wellness Coordinator. The program is available to the outpatients of our Cancer Service and offers oncology massage, cancer exercise rehabilitation, yoga, meditation, music and pet therapy.
The Cancer Wellness Program is the first of its kind in Bendigo, with patients cared for holistically. This considers their physical health as well as their emotional, social, financial and spiritual health.
Funds raised in 2020 helped establish a dedicated Wellness Centre within the hospital precinct. The stand-alone building provides a quiet nurturing space for patients to take time out for relaxation and reflection and to ensure that patients can immerse themselves in the range of cancer wellness programs in a space completely detached from where diagnosis and treatment occurs.
Dry July has supported Bendigo Health over many years and has helped us to launch a Cancer Rehabilitation Exercise Program and the refurbishment of the Lucan Street Cancer Patient Accommodation.
Without ongoing Foundation & Fundraising efforts, the Cancer Wellness Program would not be possible. It relies on donations to continue. To contribute, please visit our donate page.
